James Aitken
James is an award winning broadcasting industry veteran. Since 1990, he’s been seen and heard on television and radio stations across Western Canada and on China’s flagship international TV and radio stations. Whether he’s presenting a daily radio morning show or hosting a live event on stage in front of an audience of thousands, James is always at home in front of the microphone. His distinctive personality and versatile voice and presentation come through in everything he does. The result is unique presentations, narrations, voiceovers and on-camera work that always engage an audience.
James graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1989 with a major in psychology. Afterward, he attended Assiniboine Community College where he received an Achievement of Excellence Award before graduating from the Broadcast Arts diploma program. James was extremely active at ACC. He was elected to student council as Publications Director and worked as Editor in Chief on the school newspaper.
James’ high profile at college caught the attention of Manitoba’s CKX Television and Radio, and before long, he was working as a news anchor, reporter, DJ, and segment producer. James also hosted his own daily, live one-hour current affairs TV program.
Jame’s talents were eventually noticed half way across the country in Vancouver, and he was soon brought on board at Vancouver’s All News Radio Station – News1130. Over the next 7 years, he established himself as a key staff member at this cutting edge, 24-hour information station and earned a reputation as a respected editor and manager with a keen sense for getting to the heart of a story under the pressure of constant and unforgiving deadlines. James continued to expand on his versatility by working as a reporter, editor and anchor. James also worked as a freelance news writer for the Vancouver affiliate of Canada’s No. 1 national private TV broadcaster, CTV. While building on his previous theatre experience, James continued to study acting and signed on with one of Vancouver’s most well known talent agencies. He has since appeared in several TV and movie productions and has done countless voiceovers.
Before long, James found himself looking half way around the world to Asia for his next challenge and opportunity. It came when China’s international radio station, China Radio International, offered him a position as a news presenter in their News and Reports Department. It wasn’t long before China’s flagship international English TV broadcaster, CCTV International, noticed James. James quickly established himself as a popular and respected anchor and consultant. James has forged a loyal following and can currently be seen hosting several programs including World Wide Watch, Asia Today and CCTV’s flagship news and current affairs program, Newshour. James also occasionally contributes to Biz China and has hosted CCTV’s wildly popular annual nationally broadcast English Speaking Contest.
James also works as an editor and consultant for China Business Feature, a leading online Chinese business publication, and has contributed several articles for the China Youth Daily’s Elite Reference edition.
